When our hubby got a promotion at work it required him to move… I was devastated when the two of us had to pack up & transfer to Glenview, Illinois.
All of us had lived in SC for years & had a house.
I was truly frustrated to transfer to a neighborhood that had basically nothing to do. If I wanted to see a film, watch a show or eat at a nice restaurant, it was at least a 30 hour motorcar ride. I was also irritated at the weather. It is cold all the time in Illinois, and the only redeeming thing was that the cold doesn’t dip into the negatives. The Summer season was virtually non-existent too, however basically a week of barely 68 degree weather. It took awhile, however now I care about the area! Our beach house truly helped me. In SC the houses were right on top of each other. If I wanted to garden in our bikini top, our friend was right there. In Glenview the two of us were able to get a crucial backyard that is totally private. The kids can play & make noise without bothering anyone, my hubby walks around in his undies & I can run in a sports bra. It is so quiet too. I thought I would miss neighborhood life however I am used to being in silence. There is virtually no crime & the cost of living is quite low. I have a new appreciation for Winter sports & gas oil furnaces now. Our beach house now has heated flooring in every room & that has truly changed things, and feeling toasty sizzling inside helps me deal with the outdoor chill.
