Even though recreational marijuana is legal, a lot of people still don’t want to talk about pot in everyday conversations.
- My mom still acts like marijuana is a drug.
Even though the state of Illinois legalized recreational marijuana last year, my mom still thinks it was a mistake. There are lots of marijuana dispensaries in the state of Illinois. The law says that any person can go to a dispensary and purchase marijuana products as long as they are over the age of 21 years old or 18 with a medical marijuana card. Illinois residents are limited to 30 grams of cannabis flower and 5 grams of cannabis concentrate. The limits are even lower for residents in Illinois that do not actually live in the state. People who don’t live in Illinois can only possess 15 grams of cannabis flower and two and a half grams of cannabis concentrates. If you get caught breaking the rules, you can still face jail time and fines. Every time I talk about marijuana in Illinois, my mom freaks out and doesn’t want to discuss it. I told my mom that I went to a recreational marijuana dispensary in Illinois and she freaked out because they took my driver’s license and scanned it. My mom said that forever there will be a record that I went to a marijuana shop. If I ever want to work in law enforcement or be a private investigator, that will be on my record for everyone to see. I told my mom that I don’t particularly care if everyone knows that I smoke marijuana or not.
