Minnesota is known for its cold weather. The brutal season starts super early and doesn’t let up until late in the spring. Our summer season is honestly quite pitiful. For two months out of the year it is decent weather. We can get as high as 80 degrees and as low as the 70s in the summer. Honestly, my family doesn’t bother with any air conditioning. It is an easy way to save money in Minneapolis. Why would I buy an AC when it doesn’t get that hot? Most of the businesses around Minneapolis, Minnesota do lower level air conditioners. It isn’t uncommon to see portable AC units or window air conditioners in small businesses. The season is so short that buying central AC just isn’t necessary. I was really pleased to be able to skip this major expense. For years I went without any sort of cooling. My wife then started going through menopause and wanted to have a portable cooling unit. The nights get a little tipsy and combined with her hot flashes, she needed it. I will say, having an air conditioner at night is really nice. I can see where some people might want one. I am glad that I didn’t spring for central AC in my Minneapolis home though. It would be a wasted expense. Now though, my kids want to each have a window AC unit. I am trying to discourage it but it isn’t fair that my wife gets one and they don’t. The cost of HVAC in my Minneapolis house is going up now.
