When people actually reflect on the background of the United States and how we were able to get to the place we are now, it is often a mystery.
- One of the most intriguing concepts of the spreading of the US is how it expanded.
Beginning along the eastern shore towns, the European influence in this country grabbed onto its adventurous spirit until eventually our land spread from shore to shore… Looking at the western parts of the country can leave someone in total awe if he or she were to think about the courage, resolve, and grit that were necessary to leave behind the comfort of towns with family and loved ones as support and just head west in search of a new life. Denver certainly is one town with such an interesting past. Denver was an unknown, unnamed place back in those days, however in 1858, the real growth of CO began. Green Russell and Sam Bates left their properties in Georgia and began the search for minerals (mainly gold) in a place called Auraria. It’s now just a type of suburban looking town in Denver, CO. Back then, though, it was actually part of the KS Territory. Regardless, a small amount of gold was located. That was basically all some people needed to hear… Soon, brave boys and their families were making their way toward the superb west that offered people all sorts of wealth while we were in the CA Gold Rush and might just do so again! You can see this Old West history throughout Denver, from the name of the pigskin team – the Broncos – to the impressive displays at the History CO Center. There are even state-protected buffalo not too far from downtown Denver. Denver easily welcomes all and embraces a progressive attitude with nothing but brave people. You have everything from the annual PrideFest to the laws making marijuana legal. You actually can still see the independent spirit of Denverites these days.
