Big and Little Talbot Island

Jacksonville offers a wide assortment of historic sites, outdoor activities and scenic vistas.

Some of the most picturesque opportunities of the area are Big Talbot Island and Little Talbot Island.

These barrier islands feature unspoiled beaches, vibrant coastal forests and diverse ecosyststems. They are an exciting opportunity for oudoor adventurers, nature lovers and beachcombers. The islands are included in the Talbot Islands State Parks, which cover more than five thousand acres, and are located in close proximity to downtown Jacksonville. A favorite of locals and visitors, these islands are a draw because of their salt marshes of the Intracoastal Waterway on the western side. On the eastern side, there’s the Atlantic Ocean and pristine beaches. Big Talbot Island covers around 2,500 acres and is known for Boneyard Beach. The name refers to the skeletal remains of ancient live oak and cedar trees that line the shoreline. Time and weather has created a unique and breathtaking landscape that is enchanting as well as eerie. People visit Boneyard Beach for birdwatching, picnics, beathcombing and amazing photographs. Big Talbot Island also provides hiking trails that wander through tidal creeks, salt marshes and maritime forests. The Blackrock Trail includes an overlook with views of the Nassau Sound. Little Talbot Island is smaller, spanning 1,200 acres, but includes more than five miles of gorgeous beaches. It’s the ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming and collecting seashells. The waves are gentle and atmosphere tranquil. The island draws locals and tourists for fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Crisscrossing trails are an opportunity to explore the islands natural beauty and wildlife, such as deer, raccoons and various bird series.

Features of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens

It represents practical and stunning landscape designs ideal to the Southern climate

Situated in the center of the city of Birmingham, Alabama, there is horticultural discovery that’s been around for almost two centuries. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens covers 67.5 acres of perfectly landscaped ground. It’s an oasis of thriving greenery and the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. A testament to preservation, the Botanical Gardens began in 1962. The site originally served a Red Mountain Park as a mining operation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city of Birmingham acquired the land in 1927 with the plan to create a public park. In the 1950s, that intention transformed into the ideas of a botanical garden. Today, the gardens continues to treat visitors to a stunning array of themed gardens and plant collections. Each is meticulously designed to inspire, delight and educate. One of the features is the Japanese Gardens, recreating traditional Japanese landscaping. There are koi-filled ponds, a tea house and charming bridges. Another favorite is the Rose Gardens where thousands of rose buses of various species and varieties bloom in vibrant colors. The fragrance is an experience. The Tropical House is a climate-controlled greenhouse showcasing exotic species of plants from around the world. The Fern Glade is a shaded walkway winding through lush ferns and an assortment of shade-loving plants. It’s a wonderfully cool escape from the heat and humidity of summer in Birmingham. The Southern Living Garden is a project that collaborate with Southern Living magazine. It represents practical and stunning landscape designs ideal to the Southern climate. For the seasoned horticulturist or anyone interested in the beauty of nature, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens is an enjoyable and worthwhile destination.

Favorite restaurants in Gilbert

My local city of Gilbert is a food lovers paradise.

The area offers a wonderfully diverse dining scene.

From southwestern cuisine to international options, the local restaurants offers something for every taste. Since moving to Gilbert, I’ve made it my mission to try every one of the eateries. Lots of locals recommended a meal at Liberty Market. Located in a historic building in the downtown district, it’s well-known for delicious breakfast and brunch. Their homemade pastries and breakfast burritos are truly amazing, and I am a fan of the freshly roasted coffee. Another highlight of my culinary explorations was Joe’s Real BBQ. It’s family-owned establishment that has bee ndishing up tender, juicy smoked meats for more than twenty years. The menu carries smoked turkey, pulled port and tangy barbecue. The picnic-style seating and friendly staff makes it feel like a family get together. For something a bit more upscale, I head to Postino East. they specialize in bruschetta boards, gourmet panini sandwiches and a lovely array of wines. With the gorgeous Arizona weather and scenery, the outdoor patio is the perfect spot to sample a glass of wine and nibble on flavorful chees. When I am looking for more international flare, I make a reservation at Romeo’s Euro cafe. Italian past, French crepes and Spanish paella are some of the delectable options. Because they source many of their ingredients locally, everything is super fresh and delicious. For a farm-to-table experience, Farmhouse Restaurant offers a menu that transitions with the seasons. They use fresh produce, herbs and meats straight from the farm. The rustic ambience and friendly staff area always a treat.

Preparing for power outages in Palm Beach

Palm Beach County ranks in the country’s top five most hurricane-vulnerable areas, but natural disasters, such as hurricanes plus tropical storms, are the leading cause of power outages in FL; Going without power while in times of inclement weather is inconvenient, uncomfortable plus can even lead to health plus safety risks, and when there’s no electricity, my good friend and I can’t run the cooling system or the dehumidifier! High temperatures plus moisture create the ideal breeding ground for dust mites, cockroaches, bacteria, viruses, mold plus mildew, the humidity can cause hardwood floors, doors, moldings, window plus door frames plus antiques to warp.

The conditions aggravate symptoms of pollen irritations plus asthma plus can be blamed for difficulty sleeping, headaches, lethargy, sneezing, coughing, sore throat plus itchy throat, then a power outage of any significant duration results in food spoilage due to the lack of refrigeration.

After struggling through a power failure that lasted for several afternoons, I invested into a permanently installed backup generator. The project was upscale but worthwhile, and i hired an electrician in Palm Beach to wire the generator into the home’s electrical system. If there is an outage, the generator immediately senses the interruption in power, automatically starts up plus takes over the supply of power. The component is powerful enough to handle all of our essential systems, including the cooling system, water pump, refrigerator, washer plus dryer, and because it runs on natural gas, it never runs out of fuel. I don’t need to be at condo to start it up or worry about the consequences of a lengthy power outage. I like having the peace of mind.

Huge property in Orland Park

When my hubby plus I purchased a historical property in Orland Park, my buddy and I were delighted by the hardwood floors, doors, molding plus staircase… We looked forward to sitting on the wide back porch plus enjoying the view of a pond with ducks.

We didn’t realize some of the particular difficulties of a historical home, but our property was built in the 1760’s plus retains multiple of the original features.

We soon realized that the electric wires plus panel weren’t up to code, plus there was rarely more than a single outlet per room… The old plumbing caused concerns with water pressure, drainage plus water quality. One of our largest challenges was temperature control. The property has no conventional air duct, and in Orland Park, the weather is dire just about year round. We deal with uneven temperatures in the high eighties plus excessive humidity in the summer! During the winter, sub zero uneven temperatures aren’t a surprise. The wind chill makes conditions feel much colder plus my buddy and I set records for snow accumulation, and spring plus fall are unpredictable, providing anything from torrential downpours, hail plus high winds to intense heat. Trying to get by without centralized heating plus cooling was horrible. The former owners had used a collection of window a/cs, box fans plus electric baseboard heaters. With one electrical outlet per room, this was especially inconvenient, and plus, our property was overheated plus sticky for half the year plus frigid for the other half. I constuled with a local Heating, Ventilation plus A/C company in Orland Park plus learned about the opportunity of high-velocity heating plus cooling. This type of system utilizes bendy mini-ducts that were able to be routed through our plaster walls without causing disfigurement.
