Enjoying Trinity Trails in Fort Worth

I am an outdoor enthusiast. While my job keeps me inside at a desk, typing on a keyboard and staring at a monitor for at least forty hours a week, I spend as much free time as possible in the fresh air. Living in Fort Worth, Texas, I am fortunate to have access to the Trinity Trails system. This network of scenic trails wind along the Trinity River and provide gorgeous scenery and outdoor activities right in the heart of the city. The Trinity Trails stretch for over seventy miles, weaving through For Worth and offering a diversity of landscapes. It is the perfect destination for a peaceful stroll, calorie-burning run or invigorating bike ride. The paths are wonderfully well-maintained and include several access points located around the city. I have no trouble riding my bike to one of the many entrances. The extensive network of paved and unpaved trails is ideal for any avid cyclists. I can pedal through picturesque parks, urban landscapes and serene natural areas. The trails are well-marked and if weather permits, I take my bike out at least once per week. One of my favorite features of the Trinity Trails is its close proximity to the Trinity River. Whether I run, bike or walk the trails, I appreciate stunning views of the riverbanks, lush greenery and abundant wildlife. I regularly pass through open prairies and dense woodlands. While I’ve never gotten into birdwatching, I do enjoy spotting different species. Another benefit of Trinity Trails is that they lead to an array of parks, including Trinity Park, Gateway Park and Panther Island Pavilion. There are opportunities to picnic, fish and attend all sorts of events.

Annual festivals in Tampa, Florida

While I love the sunny weather, beautiful beaches and vibrant cultural scene, my favorite part of living in Tampa, Florida, is the many festivals.

  • Held throughout the year, they showcase the city’s diversity and rich heritage.

Music, food, art and culture are represented with a variety of festivals that draw in locals and visitors alike. The first festival of the year is the Gasparilla Pirate Festival. It’s one of Tampa’s most iconic and beloved events. Held in January, it commemorates the legendary pirate Jose Gaspar with a parade featuring colorful pirate ships and marching bands. There’s also the Gasparilla Children’s Parade and the Gasparilla Music Festival. One that I look forward to every year is the Tampa Bay Blues Festival in April. It’s a three day event that draws in premier blues artists from around the country. The venue in Vinoy Park offers stunning views of the waterfront, delicious food and amazing music. While I’m not a big fan of EDM, I usually set aside a few hours for the annual Sunset Music Festival in May. Hearing and seeing the top DJs and performers in the EDM scene is always interesting. The Tampa Bay Margarita Festival is more my style. The Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is the perfect spot for mixologists to show off their skills. My friends and I search out the perfect margarita while sampling amazing food and listening to great music. Ybor City hosts an annual Wine Bar Crawl that is always something to look forward to. The area offers a lot of historic charm and the event features unique wine bars in the area.

Snowmelt system for Minnesota winters

Living in Minnesota can be quite brutal.

We trick or treat in the snow and hunt Easter eggs in the cold.

Basically from the start of school until the end of it our kids are bundled up in coats, boots, hats, scarves, and mittens. The snowfall comes in feet rather than inches. The windchill and the ice are just horrible. It can get into the single digits at night without any sort of problem. My husband and I have invested heavily in our heating equipment because living in Minneapolis is only bearable if you do that. We own a boiler system that is hooked up to piping throughout our flooring. Hydronic heating is really the way to go when living in Minneapolis, MN. The heat stays at the flooring level and doesn’t rise. There are no cold spots and it is cleaner when it heats. Due to being water based, you aren’t getting lower operational sounds either. Another benefit is that my husband and I learned we could easily make it into a snowmelt system. We have the piping installed in our driveway now. The piping heats the blacktop and the snow melts now when it hits it. This is so nice since before we used to spend a long time shoveling snow and removing it. The cars would have icy windshields and the kids would be covered in snow by the time they got to the car. The snowmelt system melts the snow immediately and the car stays warm since it is in contact with a heating system.

I got where I loved hydronic heating

Anything touching the heated flooring feels warmer as a result.

My whole family lives in Lowell, Massachusetts. I decided early on in my life that I wouldn’t move too far away from home. Everyone sticks close and goes to the same school. Everyone knows each other and all the kids play on the same hockey team. It just makes good sense. I hunted around for the perfect house in Lowell and found a place. I grew up with a gas furnace. It used ductwork to achieve whole home temperature control. I found a house that had a boiler system. I was originally quite worried. I didn’t know anything about boilers. I didn’t like that I was kept in the basement and took up so much room. It had piping hooked to it and it was strewn through all my floors. That seemed odd to me. At first I thought about ripping out the boiler and redoing the floors. Thankfully I had so many more projects on deck that I let that be at the bottom of the list. Now that I have done a full winter season in Lowell with hydronic heating, I will never own another system. Having hot water flow through pipes and be under the floors is amazing. The heating system is so efficient. You feel warmer when it sticks to the ground level. It is quiet, clean, and there are no hot and cold spots. Anything touching the heated flooring feels warmer as a result. For Lowell, having a good working heater is a game changer. My boiler system also is linked with living over 50 years. I am in for a real treat.

Heated flooring is a good heater for Florida people

Lakeland, Florida really doesn’t get that cold of weather.

The winter season is quite mild and not very long.

It is just cold enough that going without a heater isn’t possible. I could technically get by with a few space heaters around my house. First, I don’t want to store them. Second, I don’t like the look of them. Third, a space heater takes up a lot of electricity. I started looking at options for heating equipment in Lakeland, FL. I found that a heat pump would probably be the best for me. It uses existing heat energy and pumps it indoors for a heating effect. It is a two for one system and is very energy smart to run. However, a heat pump wouldn’t work for my case since I already owned an air conditioner. No use buying another one right? That was the same case when I looked into a ductless mini split. No use having AC if I already own it. That is how I landed on heated flooring. This is electric heated mats that go under the floor and have zig zagging lines of power. It heats the floor and keeps it at the lowest level. No heat rises and is wasted at the ceiling. No hot and cold spots. No dirt or debris being circulated and affecting the air quality. The best part is that once you install it, basically no maintenance is required. It is tucked under the floros and out of sight. There isn’t much a Lakeland HVAC dealer can do for you after that. So nice it is installed, you are done.

We are hockey fans and like living in Illinois

There is plenty of time to find ice, snow, and chances to skate

I live in Elgin, Illinois. My family is a big time hockey family. We love following the hockey season and playoffs are a big deal to everyone. What we do is try to get tickets to major games about once a month. We then pack in the car and go to the rink to see the Chicago Blackhawks. They are doing better every year. One of these years they are going to get the Stantley cup. For now it is just really ince to have a team to support. Chicago is only a forty minute drive. So we can save money by taking the car or using an uber if we want to drink. The kids love going to the rink and getting nachos, pop, and other snacks. My husband and I love having a sports team we are both into. We all have our favorite players that we support and cheer on. My boys are both in small time hockey leagues in Elgin. Once they get older and a little better, I will move them into the Chicago leagues. I know they aren’t professional athlete level, but it is great that there are multiple skating opportunities for them. It is also nice that Elgin, Illinois mostly has cold weather. There is plenty of time to find ice, snow, and chances to skate. The boys practice basically all year around and even will play on the pond that freezes in our backyard. For us, the cold weather isn’t a big deal at all. It is actually one of the reasons we like Illinois so much.

Family trip to St. Petersburg

There were plenty of activities and it wasn’t a scary city after dark either.

My family is slowly expanding. My oldest brother has a daughter and another baby on the way. My middle brother has two little girls. I have two sons. When we get together, it is utter chaos. Nobody is over five years old. All the kids are crazy, wild, and need lots of attention. We frequently book trips where all of us get together and let the kids loose. We did a camping trip that was a nightmare. The kids didn’t really have anything to do. This time we have gotten smarter. I researched around and found that Florida has tons of cities with cool things to do. I landed in St. Petersburg, FL. They have dolphin tours, zoos, water parks, theme parks, shopping, and great hotels with big pools. Let’s not forget that the ocean is right there. We all booked an expensive hotel rather than an airbnb. We then each got a suite to house our many kids. Then we took turns watching kids at the beach or pool to enjoy golfing or facials. It was really great dividing and conquering. St. Petersburg, Florida offered so much for the kids. There were plenty of activities and it wasn’t a scary city after dark either. I think we will make this a once a year trip for us all. We might even go to the same hotel and do the same itinerary. Right now all our kids are little, I can easily see older kids enjoying the same things though. Everyone likes sitting and swimming by the pool right?

Air purifier for my house in Springfield

The changing seasons in Springfield, MO means there is a lot of pollen floating around.

Also, I live on a dirt road and that adds quite a bit of concern to the indoor air quality.

The HVAC gets dirty, I own a cat, and I have long hair. My indoor air quality is always a concern and something I fight to keep clean. Regular Missouri HVAC cleanings, maintenance, and ductwork cleaning only does so much though. When I started noticing a smell in my home, I knew I needed to call professionals for the job. I asked a Springfield HVAC dealer what to do about my indoor air quality. The guy highly advocated adding an air purifier to my household. There are small, stand up purifiers that are pulled into the wall. They are big, ugly, and eyesores. They also aren’t too effective. It is better to have one installed into your ductwork. As the HVAC turns on, the air purifier operates. That way you are never breathing in polluted air. As the air rushes through the ducts, it is being cleaned. No smells either are linked with this system. The only snag is that there are monthly air filter changes and seasonal maintenance appointments needed. I just make it a part of my HVAC routine. I get the HVAC and air purifier serviced at the same time. I also change both their filters at the same time. It added to my monthly expense but it was worth it to me. I love having cleaner indoor air quality.

Choosing a gas furnace for Indiana home

In South Bend, IN you need to prioritize your heating equipment.

Since our winter season is long and can get down below freezing, great heating is a must have.

I have looked at all types of heating equipment and determined that a furnace works the best. You spend the least on it and it lasts around 15 years. A furnace can achieve whole home temperature control via ductwork. There are three different types of fuel sources. There is gas, oil, and electricity. I have determined gas powered heaters are best for Indiana. This is because electric furnaces are expensive and only supposed to be used in milder climates. In South Bend, our cold season is too long. I nixed the idea of an oil furnace due to the on site oil tank and being dependant on oil deliveries. Having a snowy day in South Bend isn’t all that uncommon. What if the roads get closed down and I can’t get oil? Then I am just out of luck for heating. So a gas powered one seemed to be the smartest point. It is a complicated set up process but after that, totally fine. I have access to gas whenever I want it and it burns a hot flame that keeps my family warm. A gas powered furnace also is more common. Having a HVAC business in South Bend now a gas furnace is typical. An electric and oil based one is a bit more rare. All you need to do with a gas furnace is make sure it is kept very clean.
